This two-part class is perfect if you’re ready to knit your first hat—or want a solid, confidence-building refresher.

We’ll be using the Tin Can Knits App and the free Basic Beanie pattern. The app allows you to customize the pattern by yarn weight and size, making this a flexible and practical project you can return to again and again.

What we’ll cover:

Part 1: Cast On & Getting Started

• How to use the Tin Can Knits app and follow a digital pattern

• Casting on and joining to knit in the round

Part 2: Shaping the Crown & Finishing

• Knitting with DPNs

• Crown shaping and decreases

• Casting off and finishing your beanie

Before class:
Please download the Tin Can Knits app and the Basic Beanie pattern ahead of time:

Materials:
You’ll need to bring your own yarn and needles. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can choose your yarn weight and size, and it will tell you exactly how much yarn you need and which needle sizes to use. We’re happy to help you pick yarn in the shop.

This class is best for confident beginners who know how to knit and purl, or adventurous beginners ready to try knitting in the round.
