Joy Getha is a retired software engineer turned dedicated fiber artist and instructor, now based in Lubbock, Texas. She began spinning in 2000 and teaching in 2005, driven by a deep love for working with natural fleece—especially sheep and alpaca.
Over the years, Joy has taught spinning, fleece prep, knitting, crochet, and dyeing at fiber centers in New Mexico, judged handspun yarn and fleece competitions, and demonstrated spinning at alpaca farms and festivals. Her award-winning handspun yarn has been recognized at events like the Mountain and Valley Wool Festival and the Estes Park Wool Market, and even featured in Spin-Off magazine.
Joy’s favorite thing is helping others discover the joy and beauty of fiber arts. Whether she’s working with raw fleece or teaching students how to spin, she brings expertise, patience, and genuine enthusiasm to every class.
