Curious about continental knitting? This relaxed, 90-minute class explores the fascinating world of yarn-in-left-hand techniques—including traditional Continental, Norwegian purling, and the lesser-known Combination Continental style Marni developed after learning to knit in Germany.
You’ll get a quick tour through the history of continental-style knitting, including how WWII shaped technique preferences in the English-speaking world, and how today’s most efficient knitters—including many speed champions—use this style. We’ll also explore different ways to purl (yes, there’s more than one!) and demystify terms like Eastern and Western stitch mounts.
Whether you're an English-style thrower curious about switching, or a seasoned continental knitter looking to refine your purling game, this class will give you fresh insight and practical tools.
You'll receive:
Printed handouts and reference guides
Video links for continued learning at home
Time to try each style yourself and ask questions
Bring your curiosity—and your favorite yarn and needles if you like. We’ll have materials on hand for anyone who needs them.
