Class length
120 minutes

Location
The Yarny Way

Turn fabric scraps and leftover yarn into a sturdy, useful coiled basket.

In this relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to build a basket using a cotton cord base and simple hand stitching. Each student will receive enough cord to make a medium-sized basket — perfect for fruit, yarn, or small projects.

You can choose your own style as you work.

✨ Two ways to create your basket

  • Fabric-wrapped coil
Use strips of fabric (old sheets, shirts, quilting cotton, etc.) for a soft, colorful, rustic look.

  • Yarn-wrapped coil
Wrap the cord with yarn instead for a smoother fiber finish. Great for using stash yarn of any weight. Multiple strands can be held together for thicker coverage.

(Many makers mix both for a one-of-a-kind basket.)

Materials included

  • 25 feet of cotton cord (enough for a medium basket)

  • Clothespins

  • Tapestry needles

  • Instruction and guidance

  • A small supply of fabric strips and yarn if needed

Please bring (optional but encouraged)

  • Pre-cut fabric strips (about 1" wide works well)

  • Yarn from your stash (any weight)

Finished size

Most students will make a basket approximately
6–8 inches wide and 3–4 inches tall,
great for holding fruit, yarn balls, or small projects.

No experience needed.
All skill levels welcome.

This is a creative, low-pressure class focused on making something beautiful from what you already have.
