Turn fabric scraps and leftover yarn into a sturdy, useful coiled basket.
In this relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to build a basket using a cotton cord base and simple hand stitching. Each student will receive enough cord to make a medium-sized basket — perfect for fruit, yarn, or small projects.
You can choose your own style as you work.
Fabric-wrapped coil
Use strips of fabric (old sheets, shirts, quilting cotton, etc.) for a soft, colorful, rustic look.
Yarn-wrapped coil
Wrap the cord with yarn instead for a smoother fiber finish. Great for using stash yarn of any weight. Multiple strands can be held together for thicker coverage.
(Many makers mix both for a one-of-a-kind basket.)
25 feet of cotton cord (enough for a medium basket)
Clothespins
Tapestry needles
